An Approved Clinical Mentor (ACM) is a certified and/or licensed clinician and residency director, mentor or educator who has successfully completed and passed NCOPE's ACM course. This comprehensive course provides a clinician with the skills and information necessary to more effectively teach and mentor students in the context of a residency program or educational program.
The National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) promotes education in the field of orthotics and prosthetics and raises the standards of education in the field. This includes working in cooperation with the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) for the accreditation of orthotist/prosthetist and technician level education within the O&P profession. CAAHEP is a programmatic postsecondary accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and carries out its accrediting activities in cooperation with 23 review Committees on Accreditation. CAAHEP currently accredits more than 2100 entry level education programs in 30 health science professions.
NCOPE's additional responsibilities include the development of standards for, and accreditation of Residency education and pedorthic education for the O&P profession.
